Katherine Giska

June 21, 1949 ~ March 13, 2020 (age 70)


Katherine “Kitty” Giska, age 70, passed away in Shreveport, Louisiana on Friday, March 13, 2020 surrounded by family. Kitty was born June 21, 1949. She graduated from Wisner High School in 1967. She then went to Louisiana Tech where she received her Bachelor’s Degree in Home Economics. While at Louisiana Tech, she met the love of her life. She resided in Wisner alongside her husband of over 45 years, Mike Giska.

Kitty was very involved with her church as well as her community. She had a heart for missions especially as a leader for Girls in Action and Acteens. She also served on various leadership committees within the church. While her girls were in school at Franklin Academy, she was always ready to volunteer and support them and their school!

She is preceded in death by her husband, Michael Edward Giska, Jr; as well as her parents Loyce “LoLo” Head and Wardell Head.

Those left to cherish her memories are her daughters, Kayla Whatley of Shreveport and Tara (Scott) Rodgers of Shreveport; and her sister in law, Kathy Giska of Shreveport. She is also survived by her grandchildren Katherine Whatley, Michael Whatley and Ryan Rodgers.

Pallbearers will be Scott Rodgers, Kevin Currington, Ken Thornhill, Marc McCarty, Myles Kiper, Jon Peoples, Wayne Louque and Raymond Giska.

Visitation will take place at First Baptist Church of Wisner on Sunday, March 15, 2020, beginning at 1:30 P.M. Funeral service will immediately follow visitation at 2:00 P.M. The family will have an intimate graveside service to celebrate her life at Forest Park Cemetery East in Shreveport.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to First Baptist Church of Wisner in Katherine's honor.
