Obituary

Mr. Morris Stewart Burns, 91, passed away on Saturday, June 26, 2021, at the Glen Nursing Facility.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, July 28, 2021, at 2:00 pm in Couch Chapel at First United Methodist Church, with a reception to follow. Officiating will be Dr. Carl Rhoads of First United Methodist Church.
Mr. Morris was a native and life-long resident of Shreveport, LA. Morris was a graduate of Centenary College, Shreveport, LA, He was a member of the Kappa Alpha Fraternity becoming president in 1950. He worked for Fireman's Fund Insurance Company in New Orleans, LA; Houston, TX; Salt Lake City Utah and Shreveport, LA. Morris opened his owned insurance company in Houston, TX. He moved his company to Shreveport, LA, and eventually joined Maddox and Hughes in Bossier City, LA.
In spite of contracting polio in 1944, and overcoming several surgeries in Warm Springs, Georgia, he enjoyed playing golf, going fishing and obtaining his pilot’s license and flying private airplanes.
Anywhere he lived, Morris' warm and friendly smile made strangers feel like family, and sparked life-long friendships.
Morris was preceded in death by his parents Perry Edison Burns and Ura Belle Morris Burns, his brother-in-law, R. Donald Melson; and many aunts, uncles & cousins.
He is survived by his sisters, Marjorie Ann Burns and Mary Burns Melson and his 5 nieces and nephews, Bob (Sharon) Melson, Mark (Judy) Melson, Bruce (Kathy) Melson, Carolyn Loeber and Mimi Spreen. Additionally, he is survived by 9 great nieces and nephews and 13 great-great nieces and nephews. He is also survived by cousins from the Morris and Stewart families in Louisiana and North Carolina.
