Mr. Robert S. Dickinson, 85, passed away on Saturday, January 1, 2022 at 7:15 a.m. after a brief illness. A visitation will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. on Wednesday, January 5, 2022, at Osborn Funeral Home. Funeral Services will begin at 10 a.m. on Thursday, January 6, 2022, at Kings Highway Christian Church. Officiating will be Reverend Steve Lesher of Kings Highway Christian Church. Interment will follow at Forest Park Cemetery, St. Vincent Avenue.
Mr. Robert Dickinson was a native of Shreveport, LA and a resident of Shreveport, LA for 85 years. He was a member of the C.E. Byrd graduating class of 1954. He was in the United States Naval Reserve where he obtained the rank of Petty Officer 1st Class from 1954 to 1962. Robert attended Louisiana Tech University and LSU banking School in Baton Rouge. He began his career at Louisiana Bank and Trust Company, where he worked his way up to executive vice-president; he also worked for Hibernia from where he retired. He volunteered for Junior Achievement. Robert was active in his church, Kings Highway Christian Church, Deaconate, Board of Elders, and Board of Trustees having served as chairman of each. His special interests were volunteering at Overton Brooks VA Medical Center, master scuba diver, piloting small planes, golfing, serving his fellow man, and an amateur pool shark. While attending LA Tech he played in a jazz band. His grandson Blake described his as an “everyday saint” and “he was known as a true gentleman.”
Mr. Dickinson was preceded in death by his parents Stanley W. Dickinson and Ruby Shields Dickinson.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Eunice Head Dickinson, two daughters Robin Dickinson Burgess, spouse Peter C. Burgess, and Sherri Dickinson Gastelum. He is survived by four grandchildren Blake Robert Burgess, Olivia Burgess Dean, spouse McKinnon Dean, Amber Nicole Gastelum, Alexis Gastelum Garcia, spouse Mark Garcia and one great-grandchild McKinley Alizabeth Shuflin.
Pallbearers will be McKinnon Dean (grandson-in-law), Mark Garcia (grandson-in-law) Doug Warner (nephew), Matt Warner (Nephew) and family friends Dennis Wissing and Johnny Easterling,
Honorary Pallbearers will be Terry Rodenroth, Phillip Semon, and Kings Highway Christian Church Elders.
The family requests that memorials be made in lieu of flowers to Kings Highway Christian Church. Robert was spiritually passionate about his relationship with Christ and loved his church.
The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the Willis Knighton Hospice team, specifically Monica Bailes, RN for her caring and compassionate care and her loving relationship with Robert. Also, Kendall Holly, Hospice Pastor who walked him spiritually through these last months. Many thanks to Steve Lesher for the ongoing spiritual care that he provided, especially for the wooden handheld cross that Robert cherished.
