A memorial mass will be held for Susan Anne Poindexter at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, April 10, 2021, at the Cathedral of Saint John Berchmans, 939 Jordan St, Shreveport, LA 71101. A native of Shreveport, LA, Susan passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 31, 2021, in Orange Beach, AL. She was born February 13, 1961, the fourth of six children, to T.C. and Mitzie Poindexter. She attended St. Joseph Catholic School and graduated from Captain Shreve High School in 1979. She attended Texas Tech University, University of Holy Cross and graduated from The Art Institute of Atlanta with a degree in Fashion Merchandising.
Susan was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Michael Gray Poindexter and her sister-in-law, Kim Cotter Poindexter.
She is survived by her siblings, Mary Poindexter Wren and husband Eddie of Baton Rouge, LA; Thomas Cleary Poindexter, Jr. and wife Cissy of New Orleans, LA; Robert John Poindexter and fiancé Missie Bell Soignier of Shreveport, LA; and Margaret Patricia Poindexter of Orange Beach, AL; niece Betsy Poindexter Strott and husband Elliott of Charleston, SC; nephews Robert John Poindexter, Jr. of Shreveport, LA; Michael Edward Wren of Denver, CO; Thomas Jennings Wren of Jackson, WY; and Andrew Cleary Poindexter and fiancé Christie Domangue of New Orleans, LA; great-nieces Emmeline and Adelaide Strott and great-nephew Thomas Strott. She is also survived by her beloved dogs, Jem and Scout, and cats, Brownie, Peggy and Winnie.
Susan was very generous with her time, talent and resources. She always gave happily and willingly to anyone in need without expectation. She was involved in a number of philanthropic activities including serving as the assistant treasurer of The St. Vincent DePaul Society at Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church in New Orleans.
Susan had a loving and gentle spirit. Everyone that met her was attracted to her sweet, kind nature. She was also very funny and joy to be around. She had a multitude of great friends that loved her dearly. Our family thanks Chris Dykes, Laura Anderson Nader, Lidgette Burda, Mary Lynn Parker, Gretchen Howard, Allison Monarch, and Nancy Mettz for their lifetime of friendship and invaluable support during Susan’s illness. Susan will be greatly missed by her family and friends that loved her beyond measure. A special thanks goes to Springhill Hospice for the compassionate care they provided.
