Alan Stone, age 89, passed away on Friday, September 24, 2021. Visitation will be held from 2:00 until 2:45 p.m. on Saturday, October 2, 2021 at Osborn Funeral Home. Graveside services will follow at 3:00 p.m. at Forest Park Cemetery on St. Vincent Ave. Officiating will be the Rev. Dr. Jim Freeman of Broadmoor Presbyterian Church.
Alan was born on May 26, 1932 in Harlingen, Texas to Edwin and Dorothy Stone. He moved to Shreveport in 1964 to live with his brother, Jim Stone. Alan worked as a paper carrier for the Shreveport Times and Shreveport Journal for many years, retiring in 1998. Having lived most of his life with the Stone family in Shreveport, he was especially close to his nieces, Carol Murphy, Dottie Maziarz, and Susan Taylor; and, to his nephews, James Stone and Ronnie Stone. He enjoyed many family gatherings and especially the annual family reunion held in Shreveport.
Alan was a devout Christian and lifelong Presbyterian. He was a member of Broadmoor Presbyterian Church for over 50 years. At the church, he served as a Sound Engineer and, beginning in 1965, he faithfully recorded the church services every Sunday, first on reel-to-reel tapes, then cassettes, and later CD’s. For over 40 years, he very rarely missed a Sunday.
Alan was preceded in death by his parents; his twin brother, Richard; brothers Jim and David; sister-in-law, Frances Stone; and niece, Susan Taylor. He is survived by his sister-in-law, Marion Stone of Sugarland, TX and many nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to thank the members of Broadmoor Presbyterian Church, especially Steve Callaway, for the many years they transported Alan to church on Sundays. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to the Broadmoor Presbyterian Church or the charity of your choice.
